Beginning February 21st, the Free Library of Philadelphia will be hosting screenings and discussions of Julian Schnabel’s Basquiat (1996), as part of its One Film program. Click here for more information and showtimes.

Before turning to filmmaking, Schnabel was a painter — part of the Neo-expressionist movement of the early 1980s. Among the other leaders of that movement were Jean-Michel Basquiat and another brilliant and tragic artist named Chuck Connelly. Never heard of Chuck Connelly? Then you’re missing out.
